John Givens teaches fiction writing at the Irish Writers’ Centre in Dublin. He got his MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop
, was a Peace Corps Volunteer in South Korea for two years, studied art and language in Kyoto for four years, and worked in Tokyo as a writer and editor for eight years. Givens has published three novels: Sons of the Pioneers, HBJ; A Friend in the Police, HBJ; and Living Alone, Atheneum. A short story collection, The Plum Rains, has just been published in Ireland by The Liffey Press. Short stories have appeared in Kyoto Journal, Mississippi Review,Necessary Fiction,Wag’s Revue,Word Riot, Drunken Boat,Eclectica,Cerise Press, and other journals. Non-fiction books, essays, and book reviews have also appeared in various publications in the US, Japan and Europe.
