DAquinoandGander Alfonso D’Aquino, born in Mexico City in 1959, is the author of many books, including Vibora breve (Small Viper) and Piedra no piedra (Rock No Rock).  At the age of 22, he was awarded the prestigious Carlos Pellicer Poetry Prize.  He makes his living now as an editor, and he teaches occasional poetry workshops that have become as renowned and influential as those “Poetry as Magic” sessions that Jack Spicer conducted at the start of the San Francisco Renaissance.  Forrest Gander has recently finished a translation of Fungus Skull Eye Wing: Selected Poems of Alfonso D'Aquino.

Forrest Gander’s forthcoming books of translation include Watchword, a translation of Pura López Colomé’s Villaurrutia Prize-winning poetry (Wesleyan, 2011), Spectacle & Pigsty co-translated with Kyoko Yoshida (OmniDawn, 2011), and Panic Cure: 10 Innovative Contemporary Poets from Spain.  He is the author of numerous books of poetry, including Eye Against Eye, Torn Awake, and Science & Steepleflower, all from New Directions.  Gander also writes novels (As a Friend) and essays (A Faithful Existence).  He is a United States Artists Rockefeller Fellow and has received fellowships from The National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim, Whiting, and Howard Foundations. With poet C.D. Wright, Gander lives in Rhode Island. The Adele Kellenberg Seaver Professor of Literary Arts and Comparative Literature at Brown University, he teaches courses such as Poetry & Phenomenology, EcoPoetics, Latin American Death Trip, and Translation Theory & Practice.
