CooleyDennis dennis cooley grew up in southeastern Saskatchewan, studied at the universities of Saskatchewan and Rochester. At Rochester, he was introduced to the Black Mountain poets, who have influenced his writing, as have Michael Ondaatje, William Carlos Williams, e.e. cummings, and Robert Kroetsch. cooley is interested in what he calls prairie postmodernism, a play between regionalism and formal departure. His books include a collection of essays, the vernacular muse, and, among the poetry titles, bloody jack, country music, and irene. A book of poetry, the stones, is forthcoming in 2013, and another, abecedarium, in 2014. In 2013, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Manitoba Writers' Guild.
