The only good thing about being made to select a highlight reel of the year’s Congeries offerings each July is that I get to reread the fantastic poetry I’ve been allowed to publish during the year. As I’ve stated before, the only way I can do this best of thing is to not really see it as a best of; after all, I really care for each poem I select for publication. What I do, then, is reread the work and find the poems that most speak to me in this moment, that supply me with something sustaining and relevant to what my life is like, here and now. That’s the point of poetry anyway, to sustain. See if this work doesn’t help you through the night, too. Sept 2017
